Enclavado en la colonia El Tezal, Metate Los Cabos es mucho más que un restaurante: es una experiencia que conecta alma y cultura mexicana. Su nombre evoca el metate, la piedra usada para moler maíz, y su ambiente remite a la tradición, con antojitos y carnes asadas al fuego de leña en un espacio al aire libre, cálido y vibrante. 

Reconocido por la guía Michelin con el distintivo Bib Gourmand, ofrece un equilibrio entre calidad culinaria y precio accesible, destacando platillos como los “tacos Baja” (tortillas de maíz azul con pescado rebozado y col encurtida) y cortes como ribeye, tomahawk o cordero, preparados respetando técnicas tradicionales. 

El chef Abraham Tamez fusiona la comida callejera mexicana con presentaciones de alta cocina, en un entorno decorado con luces tenues, cine en blanco y negro y jardines con huerto propio, donde cultivan ingredientes que dan vida a sus platillos y cocteles. 

Pero Metate no solo alimenta el paladar: también nutre la comunidad. Realizan programas para niños, apoyan colectas para mascotas y promueven la cooperación local, demostrando que un restaurante puede ser agente de cambio. 

Condiciones de Reservación

- Máximo 10 personas por reserva, para más personas se deberá de realizar otra reserva con el nombre y usuario encargado de esa mesa.
- La mesa deberá de reclamarse antes de la hora solicitada
- Se deberá de presentar 15 minutos antes de la hora de reservación de lo contrario la mesa puede liberarse.

Great vibes, amazing food. Subpar service. My family had an early dinner at Metate yesterday and we were told that our waiter would be late. We ordered drinks, starter and mains before our designated waiter showed up. We had already finished our starter. We actually preferred the host more than the waiter - too bad we couldn't switch back. No explanation was given for the delay. The waiter, who had braces on his teeth, seemed pretentious and had untrustworthy vibes. At the end of service, I tipped accordingly to the 1 star service I received, and it was obviously upsetting to our waiter because he was completely silent - I didn't even receive the usually "thank you for visiting, I hope you and your family have a great night" send off. Complete silence.

Food was delicious. We had octopus main, pork shank, and baja tacos. Drinks were top notch. Too bad that service was lacking, I was really hoping that this would be the meal to remember in Cabo. I received better service from hole in the wall tacqueias than a Michelin-recommended establishment. I hope they lose their Bib Gourmand status or significantly improve their service.

What a lovely experience. The atmosphere was delightful. The evening breeze felt so nice under all the string lights. Also, noting the soundtrack because the house music was awesome. We were vibing! The staff was very efficient and kind. We enjoyed their service. The Bone In Appetizer was my favorite. Absolutely delicious. The Rib tacos were tiny but the flavor was there! So yummy. Pork Shank was very juicy, not dry at all, so it got an A+ for that alone. The Cornbread dessert was soooo amazing. Haven’t had anything like that before and now I’m wanting 5 more orders of it… another cool part was that they had our names written on a chalkboard on our table welcoming us. A very cool touch. Would come back again! *warning tho, they do have a house pet. It’s a dog that looks part Pitbull. We are afraid of that breed and so we were just a little uncomfortable when the dog was near us but the dog behaved and didn’t act out.

I’m SO glad we decided to do the cooking class. The evening started with a tour of the restaurant which highlighted the nuances and attractions of the location. (The restaurant grows their own herbs in a garden in the corner of the restaurant) We had a fun time making our cocktail. Roberto our chef made the explanations, instructions and demonstrations so clear and easy to follow along. Our server Job was so attentive to us. We made two appetizers and a cocktail. They cooked the main and flaun. Everything was so delicious!! Sure we could have just eaten dinner, but the cooking lessons and tour made the night extra special.

Went here on a cruise tour. It was a special workshop where we made drinks and authentic Mexican cuisine. We made empanadas, cerviche, and tortillas. We were also served a main dish. I had fish and it was good. The dessert was like flan but tasted much better. It was a very hot day but they did have little fans on the table. The glass bottled water was $8 U.S. Bathroom stall was mostly clean but the floor was wet.

Excellent food. Every dish has a unique touch and unexpected flavors. There is nothing on the menu that I wouldn’t recommend, but the Michoacano el Muchacho is a definite standout. Not to mention a fantastic cocktail menu (not usually my thing) and a willingness to adapt their drinks to our palate (less sugar requested). Waiters do a great job and know their menu well. They nailed it in every aspect!

Metate Cabo was a standout experience. The service was excellent — attentive without being overbearing, and the team clearly takes pride in what they do. From the moment we arrived, everything ran smoothly and felt well looked after.

The atmosphere strikes a great balance: relaxed but refined, with thoughtful design and an open layout that makes the most of the Cabo setting. It’s the kind of place that feels just right whether you’re there for a casual dinner or a special evening out.

The food was truly impressive. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour — fresh ingredients, well-executed techniques, and a menu that shows creativity without losing touch with tradition. Highlights were the shrimp juan and the picanha, both of which I’d happily order again.

Metate has clearly earned its reputation. Great service, great food, and a space that feels inviting. Highly recommended if you're in Cabo looking for something a cut above the usual.

absolutely lovely place to eat. food was traditional, mole was on the menu, service was warm and authentic, PLUS there's a restaurant dog named Dice (all other restaurants take notes PLEASE). incredibly nice atmosphere with lots of added hospitality touches to make it special. super fairly priced... especially compared to a lot of the waterfront tourist trap restaurants in Cabo that charge 2000 pesos for a terrible & unseasoned entree.

Amazing food. Fun and attentive service. Great vibes. They had a live sax player who was doing covers of fun disco songs. Our server, Victor Madrid, offered the women at the table “ponchos” right away as it was a bit chilly. Victor recommend amazing dishes (Metate, Beef Rib, pork), honestly all the food was amazing. The drinks, too. Totally well priced! And the best part… Dados! The restaurant’s dog who wanders around for scraps and pats. Must go in Cabo

Best, margaritas, ever. Food, service and ambience was amazing. The food is expertly prepared and very reasonably priced. The crab tacos, pork shank and the picanta steak were out favourites. Their were 4 of us and each couples bill came to $280 CAD each but realized we ordered $260 worth margaritas so it was very reasonably priced.
